The construction is unapologetically heavy-duty. Thick horizontal iron straps run across both panels, fixed with rows of large hand-forged studs that have darkened beautifully with age. A traditional iron chain latch sits at the centre, still intact, while a pair of polished brass ring pulls and brass lock plates catch the light and break the rugged surface with a touch of warmth. These are not decorative additions. They are original to the door, and they have done their job for what looks like a very long time.

The teak has aged into a rich, uneven brown with grey undertones, natural cracks, and surface marks that map the years this door has stood. There is no attempt to hide any of it. The wood grain is deep, the texture is rough in places, and the patina is completely authentic.
