Bahar Wooden Curio
The Bahar Wooden Curio is the kind of piece that makes you do a double take. A hand-carved koi fish, arched mid-leap with its tail curling gracefully overhead, balanced on a slender turned pedestal rising from a round wooden base. The whole thing is finished in a deep, rich red. Not bright or glossy, but a muted, aged crimson that's worn through in places to reveal the warm wood beneath. It looks like it's been sitting in someone's beautiful home for fifty years, and that's exactly the point.
The carving is detailed and deliberate. Each scale is individually shaped, the fins are softly rounded, and the face has a calm, almost knowing expression. The curved body gives the whole piece a sense of movement and energy, like it's been frozen at the peak of a jump. In many cultures, the koi fish symbolises perseverance, good fortune, and strength, and this piece carries that symbolism with a graceful understatement.
Set it on a bookshelf, a console table, a mantelpiece, or a bedside table. It works in traditional spaces just as well as it does in modern, minimalist rooms. The bold red and sculptural silhouette give it enough personality to hold its own anywhere. It's small enough to tuck into a styled arrangement, but striking enough to stand completely alone.
