Meaning: Guru is verily the representative of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. He creates, sustains knowledge and destroys the weeds of ignorance. I salute such a Guru.

Our parents are our first teachers. They are our role models. We imbibe behavior and value systems from watching them take decisions, interact with families, friends and humanity at large and their outlook on life. Thus, is it imperative to be conscious of ourselves as adults and the way we manage our households and relationships. Life skills like cleaning up after oneself, keeping schedules, being punctual, managing money, being kind and helpful, sharing resources are some of the most valuable lessons that we can teach our children for them to function comfortably as kids and as adults.

Teachers in our schools, colleges and other institutions are our ‘formal’ teachers if you will. By virtue of their roles, we invest them with a certain stature and wisdom and consider them our real gurus. Every one of us, I am certain can recall at least one such guru who inspired, guided, enlightened and enlivened us with their approach to the subject, their attitude to the student, their soaring speeches, their comfortable camaraderie, their affectionate approachability and quiet discipline. Such teachers inspire awe, respect, love and affection, never fear. Student-teacher alumni meets are replete with sharing of memories, deep affection and fiery pride, as teachers bask in the shine and sunlight of their students’ lives and careers.

Then there are Teachers who you meet in every walk of life, who teach you to change without using a pedagogical approach, whose actions, thinking, outlook and behaviors, make such a powerful impact, sometimes subtly, sometimes with a big jolt, that you are deeply inspired, influenced or affected to make changes in your life which are positive and life-changing. These Teachers are ageless. They manifest themselves as Children, Teenagers and Adults.
